Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Tulsa, OK
Hardwood Floor Refinishing
How Mayo Bros helps
When your floors look dull, scratched, or dated—but the wood underneath is still solid—professional refinishing can restore color, sheen, and protection without a full replacement. Mayo Bros Wood Floors refinishes hardwood across Greater Tulsa with dust-conscious sanding, careful stain matching, and durable finishes built for real family living.
Signs your floors need refinishing
- Finish is worn through in traffic paths, doorways, or under dining chairs
- Scratches, pet marks, and grayed spots that cleaning no longer hides
- You want a new stain color without replacing good wood
- Floors look uneven after years of spot repairs or partial recoats
- You’re preparing a home for sale and want maximum curb appeal inside
Our process
- 01Inspect & plan
We evaluate species, thickness, prior finishes, and problem areas so the right process is chosen.
- 02Prep the space
Rooms are protected, furniture plans are set, and dust control is planned for your home.
- 03Sand & repair
Worn finish is sanded back; loose boards and minor repairs are addressed before stain.
- 04Stain & finish
Color is applied as needed, then protective coats for the look and durability you want.
- 05Final walkthrough
We clean up, review results with you, and cover care for the first weeks after the job.
What affects scope and timeline
Every home is different. These factors commonly shape the estimate (we don’t invent fixed prices online):
- Species and existing finish type (oil-based, water-based, older varnish)
- How much sound wood remains for sanding (especially older floors)
- Color change goals—lightening often needs more work than refreshing the same tone
- Repairs needed before refinishing (cups, gaps, water spots, loose boards)
- Home layout, stairs, and how many rooms are included
- Timeline and access during multi-day projects

FAQ
Hardwood floor refinishing FAQs
How long does hardwood floor refinishing take in Tulsa homes?
Most whole-home refinishes take several days, depending on square footage, stairs, repairs, and the finish system. Larger homes, heavy repairs, or multi-story layouts take longer. Unfinished install-and-finish work can run longer than refinishing alone because acclimation and on-site finishing are included. We outline a realistic schedule when we see your floors—call 918-810-4844 to schedule a look.
Is refinishing better than replacing my hardwood floors?
When boards still have usable thickness and are not severely damaged, refinishing is usually better: less demolition, lower disruption, and you keep the real wood already in the home. Replacement is smarter when floors are too thin to sand again, moisture-damaged beyond economical repair, or the layout needs a full product change. We check thickness and condition so you are not sold a full replacement you do not need—or a refinish that cannot last.
Can you change the color of my hardwood floors when refinishing?
Yes. Many refinishing projects include a new stain color. Going dramatically lighter can be limited by species, prior color, and how deep previous stains penetrated. We discuss realistic options during the estimate and can often show direction with samples or past project examples so expectations stay clear before sanding begins.
How dusty is professional hardwood floor sanding?
We plan dust control, protect adjacent areas, and clean thoroughly when work is complete. Even with good containment, fine dust can appear because sanding abrades finish and wood. Homes with allergies or pets should plan for temporary disruption. Tell us your constraints up front so we schedule and protect rooms appropriately.
What’s the difference between buff and recoat and full hardwood floor refinishing?
Buff and recoat refreshes a worn topcoat when the finish is still intact and protecting the wood. Full refinishing sands through finish (and often into the wood) to reset surface defects and allow a true color change. If finish is worn to bare wood in traffic paths, full refinishing is usually the right call. If sheen is dull but the film is continuous, recoat can be a faster maintenance path.
Can you refinish stairs and the main floor at the same time?
Often yes. Stairs add time and complexity because of edges, risers, and traffic planning, but many homeowners refinish living areas and stairs together so color and sheen match throughout. We plan access routes so you can still use the home as much as practical during the project.
How soon can I walk on refinished hardwood floors?
Light foot traffic timing depends on the finish chemistry and room conditions. We give specific cure guidance for your job: when you can walk carefully, when pets should stay off, and when furniture can return. Moving furniture back too early is one of the most common ways new finish gets marked—so we treat cure times as part of the job, not an afterthought.
Do you refinish hardwood floors outside Tulsa city limits?
Yes. Hardwood floor refinishing is available across Greater Tulsa and outlying metro communities, including Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Owasso, Sapulpa, Sand Springs, Glenpool, Catoosa, and more. Call 918-810-4844 to confirm service for your address.
